Remembering sudden heart death victims

[Posted: Thu 11/12/2008 www.irishhealth.com]

The annual service to remember young people who have lost their lives as a result of sudden cardiac death (SCD) will be held in Dublin and Cork this Saturday, December 13.

In association with the Irish Heart Foundation, the Sudden Cardiac Death in the Young Support Group is encouraging family and friends to take part in a candle-lighting ceremony in remembrance of those whose lives have been cut short by SCD.

People are invited to bring pictures of their loved ones, if they wish.

It is estimated that 5,000 people die in Ireland each year from SCD and around 70 of these are under 35 years of age.

In Dublin, the memorial service will take place in the Church of Ireland Parish Church on Monkstown Road at 2pm. For more details, contact Monica Martin at 086 204 3962.

In Cork, the service will take place at St Dominic's Retreat House, Montenotte, at 3pm. For more details contact Mariane Foley at 021 488 3307 or 087 228 4943.
