Contraception highlighted at Oxegen
[Posted: Wed 09/07/2008 www.irishhealth.com]
The Crisis Pregnancy Agency (CPA) is planning to highlight the importance of using contraception, at this weekend’s Oxegen music festival.
Thirty thousand ‘Think Contraception’ tins will be distributed at the festival as part of the CPA’s campaign to reduce the number of crisis pregnancies in Ireland.
The agency has been working in partnership with festival organisers, MCD, to raise awareness of sexual health at music festivals each summer since 2003. Furthermore it has distributed over 120,000 ‘Think Contraception’ tins at Oxegen since 2004.
Each tin contains an individually boxed condom, sexual health information, an Oxegen site map and festival safety information.
“We know that the ‘Think Contraception’ tin is very popular and the summer festival season offers a unique opportunity to reach our key target audience of 18-24 year olds,” explained Caroline Spillane, director of the CPA.
According to Justin Green of MCD, the safety of Oxegen music fans is ‘paramount’.
“We look forward to working with the Crisis Pregnancy Agency as part of our safety initiative for Oxegen. We are also working closely with the Gardaí, Drink Aware and other relevant authorities to ensure that fans have both a safe and enjoyable festival,” he said.
The Oxegen music festival will run from July 11-13 at Punchestown Racecourse in Kildare. The ‘Think Contraception’ tins will be distributed to festival goers at campsite entrances on the 11th and will also be available at information and welfare tents across the site for the duration of the event.
