Eight nursing homes prosecuted since 2004

[Posted: Fri 13/06/2008 www.irishhealth.com]

A total of eight nursing homes and those in charge of them have been successfully prosecuted in the courts over the past five years for breaches of regulations, according to figures from the HSE.

Of the eight homes prosecuted, two are now under new ownership, four are currently in operation, one is in operation with a change in the name of the registered proprietor, and one has voluntarily closed.

An additional nursing home was served a closure order by the local county council under fire services legislation in 2006.

Of the nine homes concerned, five were in HSE Dublin north-east; two were in HSE South; and two were in HSE Dublin-Mid Leinster. There were no prosecutions/closures recorded in HSE West.

The information was provided to Fine Gael TD Fergus O'Dowd in response to a parliamentary question.
